Charles Schulz
Peanuts •  02/27/1955

This Sunday strip brings together many of the Schroeder-Beethoven-Lucy themes of Peanuts. The first panel, with Lucy now facing off against Beethoven, cleverly sums up the meaning of the strip. Schroeder is once again playing the "Moonlight" Sonata (symbolized in the second panel by music notes not on a staff). Lucy, who considers Beethoven her "rival," gives vent to her frustrated rage over being ignored and smashes his Beethoven bust. After calmly surveying the damage, Schroeder marches somberly to his closet of busts - all identical - to select a replacement.
